Award Booking Fee

A cash fee (often $5-$75) charged per ticket for booking an award, especially by phone or close to departure.

Full definition

Programs charge various cash fees on award tickets: $5-$25 "close-in" booking fees for bookings within 14-21 days of departure (United, AA), $75-$125 phone-booking fees (some foreign carriers), and program-specific surcharges. Elite members usually get these waived.
