Dynamic Pricing
Pricing model where award costs are tied to the cash fare, not a published chart.
Full definition
Under dynamic pricing, the points required for an award flight vary with demand — just like cash fares. Delta, United (own-metal), and American (own-metal) all use dynamic pricing for most of their award inventory.
The downside: no ceiling on what an award can cost. The upside: occasional flash sales where saver pricing drops below any published chart. Best strategy: watch specific dates via price alerts.
