A segment of a ticket you don't fly, either to save money or to bypass fare rules.

Throwaway ticketing means booking a multi-segment ticket and not flying part of it. Most famously, booking a round-trip cheaper than a one-way and only flying the outbound. Airlines prohibit this; getting caught risks account shutdown and fare demands.
