United MileagePlus benefit: a free segment on a round-trip award within one region.

Full definition

The Excursionist Perk is United MileagePlus's stopover substitute. On a round-trip award where both international segments are in the same region, you get a free additional one-way segment within that region, no additional miles charged.

Example: JFK → LHR → CDG → JFK. The LHR → CDG segment is free because you're already paying for JFK → LHR and CDG → JFK. This is a standing alternative to a stopover on many United award tickets.
