Positioning Flight
A separate flight booked to get to the starting airport of an award ticket.
Full definition
A positioning flight is when the cheapest award ticket departs from a different airport than your home — so you fly there first separately. Example: Denver resident flies to Houston to catch a cheap Polaris award to Buenos Aires.
Positioning flights are usually booked with points or cash separately from the main award. Worth it when the main award saves 20K+ miles vs. a direct origin.
